It was time to explore new ways to become productive. After the murder of George Floyd, I decided it was time to put my words into action. I joined two incredible non-profit organizations that not only fight against systemic racism, but also educate the new generations to come using what we do best: ART.
In these troubling times, it’s very easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless because of the saturation of information coming from all corners. Our collective, @ClaimOurSpaceNow, is a resource and multimedia one-stop-shop for information and inspiration that will educate, motivate, unionize, and mobilize us in the task of dismantling an intricately woven system that was built to keep Black and brown bodies under the foot of white supremacy.
We allow young people a chance for artistic growth. Dance4Hope’s curriculum supports artistic and therapeutic expression specifically geared toward children that have experienced trauma. Through this program we introduce tools to help guide young people through the social, emotional struggles they face daily. Giving hope, through dance, to kids that might feel like they have none.
